With the launch of the 2019 Toyo Tires British Rallycross Championship just days away, we caught up with reigning two-time Supernational Rallycross Champion Tristan Ovenden, for his thoughts on the year ahead and the possibility of achieving an incredible hat-trick of Championship titles
Lydden: “Good to see you again Tristan! Tell us how 2018 went for you?”
Tristan: “It went very well, thanks. We had a couple of rounds that highlighted things we’d like to improve upon this year, but overall very happy to have earned a second successive Supernational Rallycross Championship.”
Lydden: “Have you made any changes to the car over winter?”
Tristan: “Not really, it’s essentially still the same car. It still has the 3.5-litre V6 in the back, originally built by Swindon Engines. We have made a few adjustments to the set-up of the car though, which we’ll no doubt develop throughout the year. We also have a new partnership with Morris Lubricants and Goody Demolition is once again our main sponsor.”
Lydden: “What are you looking forward to most this year?”
Tristan: “There are new drivers this year, so we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Lydden: “Is there anyone in particular that you’re looking out for?”
Tristan: “No. It’s better to just focus on what we do.”
Lydden: “What’s the goal this year?”
Tristan: “The goal is always to win it!”
Lydden: “British Rallycross comes to Lydden twice this year. We can’t wait to host Round 2 of the Toyo Tires British Rallycross Championship during the Easter Bank Holiday, then Round 5 in August. What are your thoughts on driving here?”
Tristan: “I absolutely love driving at Lydden. It’s got lots of history, so you feel like you’re competing at an important venue. Best thing about it for me personally is that Lydden Hill is that fastest circuit we race at. That makes it a lot of fun and a big challenge too.”
Come and see Tristan and his flame-spitting Clio in action on Bank Holiday Monday 22nd April. For more information about the event and to book tickets visit our events calendar. Our Easter Extravaganza is a great family day out, with entertainment for the kids and tasty street food now available at the circuit.
