Godfrey and Bennett join Supercar grid for British RX at Lydden Hill
Five time Motorsport UK British Rallycross Champion Julian Godfrey and FIA World Rallycross Championship driver Oliver Bennett will resume battle at Lydden Hill Race Circuit on Bank Holiday Monday.
British driver Bennett, who has made the World RX semi-finals this year, will race his eye-catching 600bhp, four-wheel-drive BMW Mini Supercar at Lydden on Monday in the BRX Supercar category for the first time.
In the recent Titians RX Europe Supercar support class at Lydden, the fight for the runner up position in the final was a battle between Godfrey and Bennett, and the pair will again fight for the top step of the podium this weekend.
Godfrey will race the Ford Fiesta he has used to win the British RX title five times. This year, he shares the lead of the points with Irish driver Derek Tohill heading into round five. Godfrey and Bennett will make up a grid of at least eight Supercars on Monday, with full grids in the support classes, including Supernational, for two wheel drive cars.
Motorsport UK Junior RX, where the next generation of rallycross stars compete, provides some of the closest racing in the UK, even if the cars are only powered by standard 1300cc engines. The single make Swift Sport, BMW Mini and RX150 classes also provide plenty of wheel-to-wheel action and fans can take a trip back in time with the Retro RX series for cars raced in the sport before 1991 with some glorious machinery.
With an open and easily accessible paddock at Lydden, fans can take a close look at all of the cars racing this weekend, chat with the teams and meet the drivers. Practice will begin at 09.00 on Monday, with racing from 1000. Three qualifyings will build up towards semi-finals and finals, with the Supercar final taking place at 16.00.
