Donnelly, Munnich and more set for Supercar outing in Titans RX support class

Former British Rally Championship podium finisher Mark Donnelly will make his rallycross Supercar debut in the Titans RX Europe support category this weekend at Lydden Hill Race Circuit in Kent, joining a field of experienced racers.

The Northern Irish driver will race an LD Motorsports Citroen C4 in only his second ever rallycross start, after making his debut in the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship at Mondello Park in 2017.

Donnelly will be joined in the support class at Lydden’s first international rallycross event since 2017 by European Rallycross Championship team ALL-INKL Motorsport with drivers Rene Munnich and Mandie August in a pair of Seat Ibizas. Welsh driver Roger Thomas will race his Ford Fiesta in Supercar and his MG Metro 6R4 in the Group B category, and regular British Rallycross competitors Steve Hill and Andy Grant will also challenge for the podium with a Mitsubishi Evo and Ford Focus.

For Donnelly though, competing against experience opposition will be all part of learning a new discipline. “Coming from a rallying background, I always wanted to give rallycross a go. The sheer power of the Supercars looks amazing, so what’s not to like! With work commitments I won’t get a chance to test so there will be a lot of learning to do in the first few practice laps on Saturday,” said Donnelly. “I really don’t know what to expect from the car. From what I have seen and heard it looks like the C4 is a driver friendly car, but rallycross is very different to rallying so it is going to take some time to get used to. I’ve only ever done one rallycross event, in a Suzuki Swift. The driving style and having people racing alongside you is very different to rallying but I really enjoyed it so to come back and do it in a Supercar will be amazing.”

Donnelly will join Lydden Hill local driver Tristan Ovenden in the LD Motorsports team, but isn’t thinking of overall results just yet. “I haven’t set my expectations too high for Lydden. It will be a big learning curve, but I hope I don’t do anything stupid and bring the car back in one piece. It would be nice to do a few rallycross events so this will just be about learning. I haven’t been competing much at all in the past few years so I will definitely have a few cobwebs to blow off.”

The Supercar support class at Titans RX will run over two days, with four qualifying races and semi-finals leading to a final on Sunday afternoon. Find full details on the event, including where to get tickets on the Lydden Hill website https://bit.ly/2wGteuq
