World Rallycross Driver Oliver Bennett Is Coming To Play

20 July, 2019

World Rallycross driver Oliver Bennett will race his Xite Racing team’s Ford Fiesta Supercar in the Titans RX Europe Supercar support race at Lydden Hill on July 27 – 28.

Bennett is no stranger to the Kent circuit, he first tested a rallycross Supercar at the world’s first rallycross track in 2017 and has also appeared on the podium in the British Rallycross Championship, before focusing on World RX with a BMW Mini.

He will return to Lydden to race his multiple podium finishing Olsbergs MSE built Fiesta. “Lydden is probably one of my favourite tracks to race Supercar, obviously you’ve got the big elevation up and down the hill. At Devils Elbow you can just fully send it in before you go up the hill, then Paddock bend is probably one of my favourite corners in rallycross – if you get that right and get the four-wheel slide down into there, it’s crazy good fun. I’m looking forward to being back in the Fiesta, I haven’t driven it for a long time.”

Bennett is revelling in the opportunity to not worry about championship permutations, and focus on enjoying the one-off outing. “I’ve always felt fast at Lydden, it’s probably the track I’ve done the most laps at, its where I first drove a Supercar so I feel really confident with the track. We’ll how it goes. It’ll be nice to drive in a one off, obviously you can take a bit more risk, you can have a bit more fun and there’s not so much pressure. It’s great to be in the UK again, this is like my home track.”

Bennett’s friend and rival Liam Doran used a Group B Ford RS200 to get the fastest lap of the whole day in the British Rallycross Championship event at Lydden Hill on Easter Monday, even against the modern Supercars. But, Bennett has eyes to beating Doran’s best effort in the Titans RX support races. “I think fastest lap that has got to be on the cards. I’d love to see what our World RX BMW Mini could do around Lydden, I think that would be pretty interesting but the Fiesta no doubt can do it. The RS200 does have a lot of horsepower, that is the only thing, but let’s see, hopefully the weather’s dry and we can lay some rubber!”

The Supercar support race in the Titans RX event will run over two days, using a four qualifiers, semi-finals and final format.
