Car Track Day

Drivers

Car drivers must hold either a full, unrestricted driving licence for the relevant vehicle category, issued by the DVLA or an overseas equivalent, or an eligible Motorsport UK licence (Race National, RS National, Race Club or higher).

Motorsport UK Clubman, Interclub and kart licences are not accepted for Lydden Hill car track days.

Drivers under 16 are not permitted to participate.

Drivers aged 16–18 require written consent from a parent or guardian, who must be present at the event and complete the signing-on process. Drivers aged 16–18 may not carry a passenger unless that passenger is their parent/guardian or an ARDS instructor.

Junior drivers holding a Motorsport UK National Race Licence must use a vehicle of similar specification and performance to their race car, subject to prior approval from Lydden Hill Race Circuit.

All drivers and riders must be medically and physically fit to participate and must not take part if under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that may affect their ability to drive. Any relevant medical condition requiring specific consideration should be reported to the Event Chief Medical Officer.

Participants who require corrective eyewear must wear it while driving. Pregnant persons are not permitted to participate as drivers or passengers.

Additional Drivers

Additional drivers must use the same vehicle as the main driver. An additional driver cannot drive on circuit at the same time as the main driver.

Passengers

Only one passenger may be carried in the vehicle at any one time. Passengers must sit in the front passenger seat and wear a suitable automotive crash helmet and correctly use the vehicle's seat belt or safety harness.

The minimum passenger age is 14. Passengers under 18 require parent/guardian consent and must provide proof of age on the day.

Vehicles must be in good mechanical and structural condition and suitable for their intended use on track.

Cars should conform to MOT minimum standards for road use or current Motorsport UK or Oval Track Racing Council technical and safety regulations. Classic cars that are MOT exempt may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

All cars must have working seat belts or harnesses, which must be worn correctly at all times.

Vehicles over 1.85m in height are not permitted.

Racing slicks are permitted only where a Motorsport UK-approved roll cage is fitted.

Single-seater and open-wheel cars require prior approval from Lydden Hill Race Circuit.

Hybrid and electric vehicles are prohibited unless written permission has been granted by Lydden Hill in advance.

Open-top cars must be fitted with an appropriate approved roll-over safety device.

All vehicles must have suitable front and rear towing eyes or towing fixtures which are clearly visible to recovery staff.

All wheels must be compatible with the vehicle, correctly fitted and fit for purpose.

Onboard recording equipment is permitted, but must be securely mounted. Drivers must not operate or adjust recording equipment while on circuit.

Bike track day vehicle requirements are stipulated by No Limits. Bikes must nevertheless be in good mechanical and structural condition and suitable for track use.

In advance

All drivers must carefully read and complete the driver information form, Track Day Driver Declaration and electronic briefing. Completing this information in advance will help speed up the signing-on process on the day. Please ensure that all information is completed accurately and is up to date.

Bookings and participant information are managed through our online entry system, Alpha Timing. Once your details have been entered, they will be retained for future bookings, so please check that your information remains correct each time you book.

Signing on and wristband collection for drivers and passengers takes place from 07:30 in the signing-on office on the ground floor of the Circuit Office building.

Drivers must produce their valid UK driving licence, overseas equivalent or Motorsport UK licence. Photocopies are not accepted.

Drivers who also wish to participate as a passenger must complete the passenger signing-on process.

Any tampering with wristbands will result in immediate exclusion from the event.

The safety briefing is compulsory for all drivers and riders, regardless of previous track day experience.

For car track days, the full safety briefing will be sent via Alpha Timing ahead of the event. A verbal briefing will also take place on the day at approximately 08:30am in the marquee.

Both your briefing and sign-on wristband must be shown to the grid marshal each time you enter the circuit.

Car groups receive three sighting laps at the start of their first session. Overtaking is not permitted during sighting laps.

For the remainder of the day, each class receives one sighting lap at the start of every session.

Additional drivers must complete at least one sighting lap before participating.

For bike track days, all riders must attend the mandatory safety briefing and collect the required sticker or wristband before going on track. This will be checked before track sessions.

All participants must drive or ride in a safe and responsible manner.

Participants must not act or drive recklessly, dangerously or in an intimidating fashion, whether on track or otherwise. Anyone driving or riding in a manner considered incompatible with safety may be black flagged by the start line marshal, at the discretion of the Track Supervisor, and may be excluded from the session or event.

The following are not permitted:
• Racing
• Timekeeping
• Pace-making
• Donuts
• Tyre spinning
• Drifting
• Any behaviour which puts other participants at risk or damages the venue

For bike track days, wheelies are also prohibited.

Lydden Hill Race Circuit reserves the right to exclude any participant who puts other drivers or riders at risk or damages the venue.

Participants must follow the instructions of Lydden Hill officials at all times.

Groups will be released from the assembly area only on the instruction of the Track Day Supervisor when the circuit is clear and ready to be used.

All vehicles must use the slip road at the top of the hill to return to the paddock.

Lydden Hill operates track limits regulations in line with most other circuits. Drivers will be briefed on their application.

It is the responsibility of every driver and rider to understand the information provided during the safety briefing and to be familiar with the flag or light signals used at Lydden Hill.

The paddock speed limit is 10mph.

Participants are responsible for the safety of themselves and their guests while in the paddock.

Please observe the following:
• Familiarise yourself with the location of fire alarm call points and fire extinguishers.
• Fuel storage is limited to 25 litres per driver/rider participant.
• Fuel must be stored securely in suitable receptacles.
• Persons under 18 must be adequately supervised at all times.
• Spectators are not permitted to enter the Assembly Area, track or return road.
• The scrutineering bay is out of bounds to all participants.
• Paddock bikes and other forms of unlicensed motorised transport are not permitted.
• Tent pegs or similar items must not be hammered into the paddock surface.
• Participants are liable for any excessive clean-up costs caused by them.
• Litter must be disposed of in the bins provided.
• Waste oil must be disposed of in the designated receptacle.
• Waste tyres must be removed from site by the participant.

Electricity is available in the paddock at a charge of £5, £10 or £20 depending on requirements. Electricity cards are available to purchase from the catering unit.

All visitors to Lydden Hill Race Circuit must also read and abide by the Lydden Hill Race Circuit Venue Regulations.

All vehicles must comply with Lydden Hill's noise regulations, which are set by the local authority.

Every car wishing to run on the circuit will be tested in the Assembly Area / dummy grid ahead of its first session.

Noise Limits

Static: 100dB
Drive-by: 92dB

Noise is monitored throughout the event using drive-by and circuit perimeter monitoring.

Any excessively noisy vehicle may be black flagged and removed from the track until corrective action has been taken.

Engine running times

Engines must not be run before:
Saturday: 08:55
Sunday: 10:25

Before these times, engines may only be run at tick-over.

Engines must not be run after:
Saturday: 18:00
Sunday: 16:00

If a vehicle fails to meet the noise test requirements and the driver or rider is no longer able to participate, LHRC will not be liable for providing a refund.

The same applies if a vehicle suffers mechanical issues which limit or prevent participation.

Still photography and video footage for personal, non-commercial and non-promotional use is permitted.

On-board cameras and video equipment may also be used for personal, non-commercial and non-promotional purposes, provided they are safely and securely attached using bolt-on mounting systems specifically designed for that purpose.

Drivers must not adjust or operate recording equipment while out on circuit.

All equipment must be securely attached to the vehicle using professional mounting systems designed for the purpose.

Suction mounts require a secondary safety device, such as a tether, to ensure the equipment remains secure.

Commercial Filming

On-board cameras and video equipment for commercial use are prohibited unless authorised in writing by Lydden Hill Race Circuit or the event organiser, No Limits.

Where commercial footage is authorised, LHRC or No Limits reserve the right to charge a reasonable fee for the production and distribution of the footage.

Live streaming of footage taken during track day activities is prohibited.

Incident Footage

If an incident occurs, any relevant footage must be provided to the track day organiser or an enforcing authority.

Incident footage must not be distributed via social media and will be handled in accordance with the Lydden Hill Race Circuit Data Protection Policy.
