Rallycross stars Toomas Heikkinen and Kevin Hansen stormed to victories last weekend in the Titans RX Europe series, as international competition returned to Lydden Hill Race Circuit.
It was a weekend of intense action as top name drivers raced the single-specification Pantera RX6 rallycross cars in rounds three and four of Titans RX, with ex-F1 stars like Perry McCarthy and Nelson Piquet Jnr battling for glory with the likes of BTCC driver Andrew Jordan. Famous rallycross brothers Timmy and Kevin Hansen fought for honours with Heikkinen, the three drivers filling the podium on Saturday when Heikkinen took the win, but it was Kevin Hansen who won on Sunday, in front of Timmy Hansen and Jordan.
Alongside the exciting Titans RX action, supporting classes consisting of British Rallycross Supercars, Retro Rallycross and Group B provided entertainment on track.
Winners from the event, including Kevin Hansen, who moved into the Titans RX Europe points lead with his win in round four on Sunday, and Supercar support class winner Rene Muennich have praised the Lydden circuit.
“It’s really cool to win here, I really enjoy this track. Driving here, I know some tricks from when I raced the Junior Swift in the British Championship and I know the corners really well, so to come back and win here is really amazing. I couldn’t ask for a better day. I think me and Timmy had our best fights of the year this weekend on track. That was a lot of fun. I was driving so clean and nice, I was confident in the speed I had going into the final om Sunday. I knew if I could get a gap I could pull away. It’s brilliant to race here,” said Kevin Hansen.
Munnich beat a strong field of British RX Supercar drivers, with Julian Godfrey finishing second with his Ford Fiesta and Oliver Bennett taking third on the podium. “2009 was my first time at Lydden and since then I like it very, very much. It was a wonderful weekend. We came here to have some fun and we did that,” said German driver Munnich.
The next rallycross event at Lydden Hill will be round five of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship on August Bank Holiday Monday, August 26. Find ticket information here.
