Liam Doran set to headline Group B support class at TitansRX

World Rallycross star and double X Games Gold Medallist Liam Doran is set to headline the Group B support category at Lydden Hill’s round of Titans RX Europe later this month (July 27 – 28), driving a monstrous Ford RS200.

Doran drove the iconic RS200 that his father Pat raced in the European Rallycross Championship in the early 1990s at Lydden earlier this year in a support class to the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship on Easter Monday. There he wowed the crowds with his attacking approach in the car nicknamed ‘Rosie’, and even set the fastest lap time of the event, ahead of World Rallycross specification Supercars.

Doran will be joined on the grid by a collection of cars from the history of the sport in the Retro Rallycross Championship class. The star attraction however will be the headline Group B machines, with early entries including Steve Harris in another Ford RS200, Roger Thomas in an MG Metro 6R4 and David Halford in an Audi Quattro.

“When I drove Rosie at Lydden on Easter Monday it was one of the best days I’ve had driving in a very, very long time. There’s nothing like driving that car. The simple thing is, I think it’s probably the best rallycross car in the world and Lydden is probably the best track in the world for driving rallycross – it’s a great combination,” said 32-year old Doran. “I’m not normally a smiler, as most people know, but I couldn’t help myself getting out that car every time. You can’t help but just be like excited and satisfied that you made it to the end. It’s just so fast.”

The Doran RS200 has been an icon of the sport in the UK for decades, but World RX podium finisher Liam says the car is now better than ever. “My childhood was growing up around that car. In my younger years it was in boxes for a long time when dad wasn’t racing, and then it got thrown back together and used at different times, but now I’ve had the opportunity to have my own team, LD Motorsports, we’ve really made headway with improving it. It’s actually more original now than it was when it was rebuilt around the year 2000, its much closer to what spec it was back in 1990, but with the small tweaks that make the balance work. And it really does, it looks better and goes better.”

Without championship points pressure, Doran is looking forward to putting on a show for the crowds at the Titans RX event. “I’m really looking forward to being back in the car in the Titans RX support race. There will be no pressure for me, but we took the fastest lap of the day at the British Championship round and of course I will be going as fast as I can again. It’s great to have international rallycross back at my home track and I will be pushing hard to put on a good show for the fans.”
