Lydden Hill plays host to BTCC and Rallycross head-to-head

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Two of the most exciting and current names in British motorsport, Ash Sutton and Nathan Heathcote, will go head-to-head on Saturday 4 November, as part of Lydden Hill’s MotorMania event at the Kent track. The newly-crowned champions of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Championship will headline a packed programme of demo races, prior to the traditional fireworks display.

Sutton was crowned BTCC champion after an explosive season in the UK’s premier saloon car series which saw him the only driver to claim six wins across the season. Heathcote clinched the British RX title in style with victory in the final at Croft, and followed that up with a win in the British Rallycross Grand Prix the following day.
The two will race their cars head to head on the respective tracks; Sutton taking the wheel of his Adrian Flux Subaru Levorg, while Heathcote will drive his 600bhp LD Motorsport Citroen DS3. It will be interesting to see how they get on, with Ash particularly excited to be fulfilling his rallycross ambition.

“It will be great to get out behind the wheel of a British Rallycross Championship car, especially one that has just won the championship.” said Sutton. “Rallycross is always an avenue that I’ve been interested in so I’m excited to be fulfilling an ambition. I’ve never driven a rallycross car before, so I will be turning to the BMR boss, Warren Scott, to get some pointers considering his successful debut year. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone for making this happen.”
Joining the two former karters in the programme of action for MotorMania will be the MSA British Superkarts, Norasport British Supermoto, Sidecars, Supernational hot rods, Drift displays, and solo scooters as well as demo races from a mixture of drivers from the circuit racing world.

Fancy experiencing the adrenaline for yourself? Why not take to the circuit as a passenger in a drift or circuit racing car, or show them how it’s done by taking your own car to the circuit in the public track time session? Off track there will be a mixture of entertainment for the whole family including a funfair, car and bike displays, show ‘n’ shine competition, trade stands, hot food stalls and a Bar.
Track action gets underway from 1pm on Saturday 4 November, with the Firework Display due to start at 5pm.

Tickets are available here for just £12 per adult, while under 12’s go free of charge. For more
information on the event please visit http://www.lyddenhill.co.uk/ or contact the office on 01304 830557.

Track improvements have begun starting with the resurfacing of Devils Elbow!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Lydden Hills circuit which was originally reformed from a grass track to tarmac circuit in 1962 by Bill Chesson and later resurfaced in 1993 has now undergone the first stage of the planned investments at Lydden Hill. Improvements started with Devil’s elbow which was resurfaced last week by the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business, Tarmac, a CRH company.

Over the last 55 years the tarmac circuit has been graced by many star drivers and riders such as John Button (2009 F1 Champion Jenson Button’s father), Martin Schanche, Damon Hill, Will Gollop, Shakey Byrne, Steve Parish, Petter Solberg, Sebastian Loeb and more. During its lifetime the canterbury circuit has played its part in history by being the birthplace to the sport of Rallycross in 1967 as well as playing host to many large and historic events including the Lord of Lydden, FIA World Rallycross, Truck Festival and the BHP show to name a few.

Prospective investment plans by current circuit owner, Pat Doran, seek a fully resurfaced circuit alongside contemporary offices, hospitality centre, scrutineering bay and garages. Management at Lydden hope improvements will see the return of many clubs to continue to host a range of exciting events for the local community as well as the national and international visitors to enjoy for the indefinite future.

The action packed summer at Lydden Hill continues with the Vintage Bike racing this weekend (19th/20th August) presented by the Vintage Motorcyle Club followed by the Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross championship round 6 on the bank holiday Monday (28th August). Later in the year the circuit will host Motor Mania (4th November) which will feature an afternoon of on track action finishing with an evening firework display. For tickets or more information on any of the events please visit www.lyddenhill.co.uk.

Management at Lydden Hill would like to thank Tarmac for the fantastic work they have carried out during the recent improvements, for more information on the company please visit https://www.tarmac.com/
